President-elect Donald Trump met with former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney in New Jersey Saturday.

The meeting took place at Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster.

It has been rumored that Romney may be on the short list of candidates for secretary of state or the Department of Veterans Affairs.

The 2012 presidential nominee was an outspoken critic of the president-elect throughout the election.

Romney once called Trump a "phony" and a "fraud," and Trump repeatedly referred to Romney as a "loser."

Trump's Senior Adviser, Kellyanne Conway, says the two could work together despite their past differences.

After their meeting, Romney spoke to reporters, calling their meeting "a far-reaching conversation in regards to the theaters in the world where there are interests of the United States...we discussed those areas and exchanged our views on those topics."

Also spotted meeting with Trump was Michelle Rhee, the former chancellor of schools in Washington, D.C. She is said to be a contender for secretary of education.

Trump has already decided he will nominate Alabama Sen. Jeff Sessions as his attorney general and retired Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn as his national security advisor.

There remains a question to be answered about Gov. Chris Christie, who was replaced as the head of Trump's transition team. Christie did say on Thursday before the League of Municipalities conference that he had every intention of serving out his term as governor. The governor is set to meet with Trump on Sunday, but it is not yet clear what job, if any, he is being considered for in the new administration.
