The fire and police departments in Paterson say they are geared up for Isaias.
The Department of Public Works vacuumed drains prone to flooding. They also closed off some streets.
Officials encouraged people to stay off the roads entirely.
"Preparedness is the key. The fire department is working with the police department, the administration, the Red Cross," says Public Safety Director Jerry Speziale. "We are prepared. That is the key to surviving through a disaster."
Chief Brian McDermott, of the Paterson Fire Department, says, "Paterson is ready for this storm. I encourage people to take this very seriously. As we know with Sandy, it kind of caught people by surprise. Do not be caught by surprise."
Officials also recommend residents to download the Red Cross Emergency app for important shelter and safety information.
