Heavy rainstorms caused flooding across New Jersey Thursday, particularly in Newark.
Video obtained by News 12 New Jersey showed that parts of McCarter Highway near Clay Street were underwater Thursday afternoon. The flooding was so strong that the water pushed off some manhole covers in the area.
Parts of Railroad Avenue near Wright Street were also flooded.
City officials had to close various roads around Newark due to the dangerous weather.
The flooding receded by around 8 p.m. and traffic was moving fairly smoothly once again.
Thursday’s storm also prompted the National Weather Service to issue a tornado warning in Burlington County for a time. It was unclear if a tornado actually formed.
