PATH commuters dig a little deeper for a ride

HOBOKEN - Commuters who ride the PATH train into New York City will have to dig a little deeper into their wallets today as the price for tickets went up.

The price of a one-way ticket into the city went up 25 cents and now costs $2.25 per trip. In addition, weekly and monthly passes increased. A seven-day Smart Link pass increases to $24, while a 30-day pass will now cost $73.

Officials say the increase is part of a toll hike that was approved in Aug. 2011. As part of the plan, fares will be increased each year until 2015, when a one-way ticket price will cap off at $2.75.

Some commuters in Hoboken were taking the increase in stride, while others were surprised and bothered by it.PATH fare increases to go into effect Monday morning
