Police: Woman struck 2 officers in stolen SUV
Two Newark police officers are in the hospital and three police vehicles are smashed after an intense high-speed chase involving a stolen SUV Wednesday.
Authorities say two officers noticed a woman at a gas station driving a stolen Jeep Grand Cherokee. According to police, when the officers approached the woman, she struck them with the Jeep and drove off. Police say the woman then slammed her vehicle into an NJ Transit bus, hit two police vehicles and sped away on Elizabeth Avenue. The woman eventually lost control of her SUV on the ramp to Route 22 and hit a guardrail.
No one was injured when the woman struck the bus. One of the struck officers suffered a leg injury; the other has a shoulder injury. Both injuries are considered non-life threatening.
Investigators are still gathering evidence at the scene of the crashes. The woman, whose name has not been released, was taken into police custody.
