EDISON - A teenager and two men are dead following an early morning crash along Route 27 in Edison.

Authorities say a 15-year-old male took his parents' Honda Civic without their knowledge and smashed head-on into a Nissan Altima. Police have not released the teen's name, but have confirmed that 46-year-old Mohammed Zia and 35-year-old Ali Behzad were in the other car.

Zia was rushed to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Behzad died at the scene.

Sources tell News 12 New Jersey that the 15-year-old was a student at J.P. Stevens High School.

Investigators say speed was definitely a factor in the accident. A witness adds that the teen sped by him just seconds before crossing the center line and crashing into the Altima.

There are no skid marks on the pavement, which would indicate that the driver tried to stop. Police are trying to determine why the teen veered into oncoming traffic.
