Police search for driver of Easter hit-and-run
Woodbridge police are searching for a driver involved in an Easter morning hit-and-run accident.
Authorities say the 29-year-old victim was walking in the middle of the southbound lanes of Route 1 when he was hit by a red minivan going about 50 to 60 mph. According to police, the impact knocked the man out of his shoes and ripped his pants off. Two witnesses in another car told police the victim was thrown into the air and became lodged in the minivan?s luggage rack.
The driver was seen taking the ramp onto Route 9 and eventually made it to Grove and Oak streets, where police suspect the driver stopped to pull the victim off the roof and left him on the street. According to authorities, the victim may have died if two teens hadn?t found him when they did.
The victim, whose name has not been released, was taken to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital with two broken legs, internal injuries and an injured shoulder.
Investigators need the public?s help in finding the minivan driver. According to police, the right headlight on the minivan is out and the vehicle likely has front-end and windshield damage on the right side.
Anyone with information about the accident is asked to call Woodbridge police at (732) 634-7700.
