Authorities say a school bus driver was drunk with about 20 students aboard his vehicle when he was involved in a road rage incident.
Lakewood police say that officers were dispatched to the intersection of Chestnut Street and Vermont Avenue around 8:30 a.m. Wednesday for reports of a “road rage incident” involving the school bus and another vehicle.
While officers were speaking with the bus driver, 54-year-old Angel Colon, police say officers smelled alcohol on his breath. Police say that Colon also had slurred speech and bloodshot eyes.
Colon was charged with driving under the influence and endangering of children.
The Asbury Park Press reports that Colon was employed by Jay's Bus Service. A representative from the company did not respond to requests for comment.
Details on the road rage incident were not disclosed.
