Police say a mini bus driver veered off the road and into a North Amityville home after suffering a medical emergency.
According to police, a 911 call came in at 7:45 a.m. for a crash at County Line Road and Ritter Avenue.
A total of five children, all of elementary school age, and a driver’s aide were on the bus from the Amityville School District. They were transported to Good Samaritan Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
The driver was also transported, but her condition is not known.
An occupant of the home said everyone was asleep at the time of the crash, except for her mother who was in the living room. The mother was injured by debris but is expected to be OK.
A statement from the spokesperson for Educational Bus company said it was “relieved to learn that student and driver assistant injuries from this unfortunate incident were minor and that the residents of the home were not harmed.”
The statement goes on to say the driver was “in full compliance with all state laws and company regulations regarding physical examinations.”
County building inspectors who were on the scene condemned the home due to the amount of structural damage.
