Authorities in Hackettstown are searching for a man accused of posing as a taxi driver and then robbing a passenger at gunpoint.
Hackettstown police said the incident began around 2:30 a.m. Thursday at a restaurant in Dover. The victim told officers that he was looking for a ride from the restaurant to Hackettstown when an older man approached him, said he was a taxi driver and offered him a ride.
The driver pulled over near a QuickChek on Mountain Avenue once he arrived in Hackettstown, pulled out a silver handgun and demanded the victim’s money, police said. The victim gave the driver an undetermined amount of money and got out of the vehicle.
Authorities said the driver was described as possibly Hispanic, tall, thin and had wrinkled skin on his face. He was wearing a black coat at the time of the alleged robbery.
The man was driving a silver vehicle, possibly a Ford Crown Victoria or a Mercury Grand Marquis that had no company logo on it.
Anyone with information pertaining to the incident is asked to contact the Hackettstown Police Department at 908-852-3302.
