A Hunterdon County man who is accused of breaking into singer Taylor Swift’s home is also accused of causing about $20,000 worth of damage to at President Donald Trump’s golf course in Bedminster.
The Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office says that 26-year-old Richard Joseph McEwan was spotted doing “donuts” on the green of the 11th hole at Trump National Golf Course on Sept. 3 and then again on the green at the 13th hole on Sept. 8.
Investigators say that they were able to identify McEwan by a partial license plate and a piece of plastic that came off of McEwan’s 2006 Ford Focus.
McEwan was arrested at his home on Sept. 10 and charged with criminal mischief.
The Milford man is also facing charges for allegedly breaking into Taylor Swift’s beachfront mansion in Rhode Island on Aug. 30.
Westerly Police Chief Shawn Lacey told The Westerly Sun that McEwan wasn't wearing shoes at the time. When asked why, he said he was always taught to take his shoes off when entering someone's home to be polite.
McEwan was charged with breaking and entering and willful trespassing for that incident.
The Associated Press wire services contributed to this report.
