A well-known 67-year old Pompton Plains woman was killed in a tragic accident Thursday morning when her husband accidentally backed his pickup truck over her as she was shoveling snow.

Pequannock Township Police Capt. Christopher DePuyt says that Ann Weisse was shoveling snow around 9:30 a.m. when her husband, Frank, also 67, began to back out his truck.

"She was at the end of the driveway at the front of the house and ended up in his blind spot," DePuyt told News 12 New Jersey. 

DePuyt said the woman was taken to Chilton Medical Center in Pompton Plains, where she was pronounced dead. The captain said no charges have been filed against the husband and he doesn't expect that any will follow. 

"This was just a tragic accident," DePuyt said. 

The couple was well-known in town, having owned a business - Frank's Chevron on the Newark-Pompton Turnpike - for about 40 years before selling it last year, according to DePuyt.

"Any fatal accident is tragic, but everybody in town knew this couple," DePuyt said.

The couple had been married, he said, since 1971. 

The storm that preceded the fatal accident dumped nearly 2 feet of snow on parts of the Garden State Wednesday.

A Franklin Lakes man was also killed following the storm Thursday when he drove his car over live power lines, causing it to catch fire.
