Police make arrests in Lakewood stabbing
Police say three men have been arrested in a stabbing earlier this week that left an Orthodox man in critical condition.
Police say Jack Goldbaum was stabbed early Tuesday morning. The suspects allegedly jumped out of a car and knifed Goldbaum three times in the torso on Forest Avenue for his wallet.
"He felt that he just had been hit and it wasn't until his wife saw his blood and realized he had been stabbed that the ambulance was called," says Lakewood Police Department Chief Rob Lawson.
Ocean County Prosecutor Marlene Lynch Ford announced Thursday the arrests of three men: Jose Diaz and Devon Hardy, both of Lakewood, and Timothy Swift, of Toms River. Ford is not calling the incident a bias crime, even though the victim is an Orthodox Jew.
Two of the men are also suspected in another crime that happened about a month at the Welsh Farms store on Route 9, Ford says. An Israeli national visiting Lakewood was beaten with a bat. The bat was also used to smash the man?s car window and steal his computer.
A spokesperson for Jersey Shore Medical Center, where Goldbaum was taken, says he has been upgraded to stable but critical condition.
