Police fight back against allegations of brutality
Paterson police are fighting back Friday against allegations of police brutality against a Muslim family.
The department released a 911 call related to the incident while dozens of Muslims protested at Paterson City Hall.
The demonstrators were calling for justice for the family that was allegedly attacked by police officers. It was the second protest in as many days prompted by an incident that allegedly happened at a home on Dakota Street.
Saer Haq says police showed up at his home and started a fight with his entire family. Police say they were responding to a 911 call made by a young girl who was reporting a domestic disturbance at the home. Haq claims the call never came from his home. Police released the call they say came from the home Friday.
Police say when the officers insisted on searching the Haq home, a man inside got violent and attacked them. Authorities say the officers were forced to defend themselves.
At the protest, the police chief and Paterson mayor say they are investigating the incident.
