A deli owner in Audubon was fatally stabbed Friday, according to police.
Police responded to the Shamrock Delicatessen on South Davis Avenue just before 5 p.m. after receiving multiple reports of a male who had been stabbed.
After they arrived, officers say they found the victim, 52-year-old Jerome Pastore, across the street from the deli suffering from apparent stab wounds. He was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Eyewitnesses told News 12 exclusively Pastore chased down a shoplifter who was attempting to steal from the tip jar. He was stabbed in the neck near his business on the corner of Cuthbert Boulevard and Davis Avenue.
Residents say the community is normally quiet, and that they're surprised by the news. They also say there was an increased police presence in the area following the stabbing.
Authorities have released an image of a man with a bicycle in connection with the case, and they're asking anyone who recognizes the man to contact them.
A GoFundMe page has been set up for the Pastore family.
Authorities have released an image of a man with a bicycle in connection with the case. Anyone who recognizes the man is asked to contact Camden County Prosecutor's Office Detective Jeremy Jankowski at 856-580-5950 or Haddon Township Police Detective Jessica Camacho at 856-833-6210.
