Police say an assault-style weapon was fired into the home of a Bridgeport couple.
A terrified caller dialed 911 Saturday night and spoke with one of the telecommunications first responders at the city's Emergency Communications Center, saying somebody had shot into their home in the North End.
Helga and George Brana, along with their son Richard, tell News 12 that one of the bullets went through several walls before stopping in a front room. They say Helga Brana had been in the bathroom, where the round entered, just a couple minutes earlier.
"I don't feel safe in our own house," she says. "I could have been hit. My life would have been over."
Police say the round appears to have been fired from the direction of the Trumbull Gardens Housing Complex, which is right behind their house.
The couple says they have had bullets enter their home before and that they think stricter gun control would alleviate the problem.
At a Friday morning forum on gun violence hosted by Mayor Joe Ganim, local leaders stood together in support of a pending state measure that would ban bump stocks, which allow semi-automatic weapons to fire faster, as well as ghost guns -- firearms without serial numbers built from make-it-yourself kits.
