Police in Ocean County have arrested a man who allegedly tried to run over a Toms River police officer. The Ocean County Prosecutor's Office says the incident happened at around 4:16 p.m. Wednesday.

Police in Ocean County have arrested a man who allegedly tried to run over a Toms River police officer.
The Ocean County Prosecutor's Office says the incident happened at around 4:16 p.m. Wednesday. Toms River police say they approached a vehicle on foot when the driver attempted to run one of the officers over. The officer then allegedly fired a shot and the driver fled on foot.
Authorities say the driver is Shamar Kerr, 24, of Jackson. He is being charged with attempted murder and eluding police, among other charges.
The incident occurred while police were tracking a vehicle that may have been involved in drug activity in the neighborhood.
