The Middlesex County prosecutor's office and the Plainsboro Police Department have announced a man has been arrested in the death of a woman found stabbed inside of her apartment.

According to officials, Kenneth C. Saal, 30, of Lindenwold, was arrested Wednesday and charged with one count of first-degree murder and one count of possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose in the third degree.
The investigation determined Saal, a co-worker at Princeton marketing firm Engine Group, killed Carolyn Byington, 26, of Plainsboro, back on June 10 when she went home for lunch. The suspect allegedly was waiting for her outside her Hunter Glen apartment.

News 12 has not been told the cause of death or what kind of weapon Saal used.

Police responded to the home after they were asked by other co-workers to do a wellness check on the victim.

NJ Advance Media reported that Saal told his boss he would be late coming back from lunch that day because of repairs being done on his car.

Saal reportedly had asked another co-worker if he could be convicted in her murder on circumstantial evidence alone.

Neighbors say that Saal lived with a woman and their child for less than a year.

"They seemed like a nice family," said Richard Clark. "Young baby, seemed like they getting their stuff together."

Engine Group released a statement saying: "We are cooperating fully with the police. Our primary interest is in helping get justice for Carolyn's tragic death. Our thoughts are with her family during this difficult time."

Saal is due in court on Friday for a detention hearing.
