Fairfield police and other departments helped rescue 46 dogs from heavy smoke conditions inside a building on Saturday night.
Authorities say a call at around 9:30 p.m. reported that there was smoke seen at the Pio Costa Industrial Complex on Bloomfield Avenue.
Several businesses are housed at the complex, including the K9 Resorts Luxury Pet Hotel.
Police say the animals were rescued, examined by a veterinarian and moved to another facility owned by the same company as the hotel.
The hotel sustained smoke damage. One police officer was also hospitalized for smoke inhalation, according to authorities.
Authorities say the cause of the fire is currently unknown.
