Police say three babies and two adults were stabbed early Friday morning at what is described as an overnight day care and birthing center operating out of a home in Flushing, Queens.
The incident happened in the three-story home around 3:30 a.m. The 52-year-old suspect was reportedly found unconscious in the basement, with slash wounds to her wrists. Police say those wounds were self-inflicted. Some of the babies' mothers were on site.
The infants range in age from 3 days old to 1 month.
The injured were hospitalized in critical but stable condition.
News 12 is told that were a total of nine babies in the home. One was carried out Friday afternoon, with another following about an hour later.
Police say two knives were recovered from the scene.
"After the horrific incident at Mei Xin Care in Flushing, the Health Department is investigating the facility," the Health Department said in a statement. "Although it is still early in the investigation, the Department can confirm that there was no home day care license for the location. NYPD is the lead on this investigation."
Charges against the suspect were pending.
