Point Pleasant siren study to cost thousands in taxpayer dollars
(06/22/06) POINT PLEASANT ? Some residents in Point Pleasant Borough say they?ve had it with their noisy neighbors ? loud first aid sirens.
As a result of the complaints, the Borough Council will spend $5,000 on a study to see if raising the sirens to higher ground will soften their sonic impact. However, some residents are wondering if the siren issue deserves the amount of taxpayer dollars the Council is ready to throw at it. Many residents who don?t live in close proximity to the sirens say their howl really isn?t that bothersome at all.
Annoying or not, first responders say the sirens are an absolute necessity. Council members say when the borough originally purchased the devices, they were told the volume level could be adjusted. That obviously turned out to be false.
