Things are back to normal in Plainfield this morning after a bank robbery nearby forced two schools to go on lockdown.
The PNC Bank on St. Nicholas Avenue in South Plainfield was robbed yesterday afternoon.
The suspect was last seen near Maxson Middle and Woodland Elementary schools.
As a precaution, the schools were put on lockdown. Students were forced to hide in the corners of their classrooms while teachers locked the doors. The lockdown was in place for approximately 30 minutes.
The suspect is described as a heavyset black man about six feet tall last seen wearing a gray-hooded sweatshirt.
Plainfield resident Christine Brown says the man they are looking for is her cousin. She says police came to her home and searched the basement looking for him.
"They searched the basement. They searched the attic. They searched the rooms. They didn't find anything," she says.
Brown says she doesn't know if her cousin robbed the PNC Bank in South Plainfield, but is urging him to surrender.
"The officers told me that they believe that he did it because they had him on camera on film at the bank."
So far no arrest have been made.
Anyone with information is asked to call the police.
