A Paterson school district bus driver is out of a job after an incident captured on video was brought to the attention of the district.
In the video, the driver's school bus is seen stopped at a railroad crossing with the gate arm down on top of the bus, clearly beyond the marked area on the street, as a train passes by.
Students in elementary and middle school were on the bus at the time.
This took place at the grade crossing at Madison Avenue and Ellison Streets.
First Student bus company has also been fined $1,000.
Paterson Superintendent of Schools Eileen Schafer released a statement, reading, "There is absolutely no excuse for bringing school children this close to harm's way. Our students' safety is always our top priority, and this school bus driver will never drive Paterson school children ever again."
