Parts of South Jersey get up to 8 inches of snow
Parts of New Jersey saw nearly a foot of snow Wednesday – but most of the state didn’t even know it.
The snowstorm impacted the extreme southern portion of the state – with parts of Atlantic County seeing up to 8 inches of snow.
Brigantine residents say that they weren’t anticipating this much snow.
“Never even crossed my mind. We get flurries here. We typically don’t have snowstorms,” said Therese Cooke. “I never anticipated the 7 or 8 inches of snow that we got.”
But many of the children of the neighborhood told News 12 New Jersey that they absolutely loved it. They spent most of their time after school playing in the snow.
Julian Cook said that the snow caught him off-guard. He says that he thought that it would be nice enough to ride his bike to school Wednesday morning. But he said that by 1 p.m. he had to call his parents for a lift home.
“When I came outside this whole basket (on his bike) was filled with snow,” he said.
A thin band of snow seemed to come over Atlantic County and stay there. It never moved north into Ocean County. But there were signs on Route 34 warning drivers of potentially slick conditions on the roadways. But they never happened.
Ocean County officials say that they were prepared anyway.
“The southern half [of Ocean County] had flurries. We brined the southern half, but nothing up north because we didn’t have anything,” said Ocean County Roads Department Director Tom Curcio.
New Jersey leaders were criticized last month after a November snowstorm nearly crippled the state because roads weren’t prepared in time
