Ortley Beach rebuilding 1,000 days after Sandy
It's been 1,000 days since Superstorm Sandy, and like many coastal communities, Ortley Beach is still recovering.
Residents say they can see the progress embodied by the cars parked at nearly every home and the people walking on the beach.
Many houses have been rebuilt, though some homes are still in limbo, they say.
There are still apartments with boarded windows, and what was once Joey Harrison's Surf Club is now just sand on the beach.
Earlier this week, the Ortley Beach Voters and Taxpayers Association held demonstrations calling for state money to pay for dunes it says are necessary to protect the area from future storms.
