The phrase "fashion police" is taking on a new meaning as one Trenton councilwoman pushes for a new law to get rid of baggy pants.
West Ward Councilwoman Annette Latigue plans to introduce an ordinance at the next council meeting to ban the trend of wearing baggy pants. Her plan would allow police officers to charge offenders with indecent exposure.
"In the prisons, they're not allowed to wear belts for safety reasons and I think rap videos and other videos picked that up and it became a style, the culture," said Latigue.
Latigue believes getting rid of baggy pants is the first step in improving one's public appearance.
"If you send the right message in your appearance, you send the right message about what you're doing and where you're going," she said.
