Officials: Teething product may be poisonous

City health officials are warning Bronx parents that a popular Dominican product used for soothing teething infants can be poisonous.
The liquid medicine, which is called Monell's Teething Cordial, or Cordial de Monell para la Dentición, was blamed for allegedly causing potassium bromide poisoning in a New York City baby. Parents use the medicine to soothe teething pain, stomach pain, constipation and vomiting, but health officials say it is sold illegally in the U.S.
According to the New York Times, the distributor of the product issued a voluntary recall in April after the FDA raised concerns it was to blame for poisoning another infant. If your child has consumed an illegal teething product, call Poison Control at 212-POISONS or 212-VENENOS.
