Officials say a police chase overnight ended in a fiery crash in Jersey City that injured at least one person.

A video shot by a witness on a nearby balcony shows the car crashing into a utility pole and another car near an Econo Lodge.

Hudson County police say the incident started as officers tried to pull over a car near Ocean and Cator avenues when the driver took off and first crashed on Tonnelle Avenue. Shots were then fired at the suspect by Jersey City police officers. The driver crashed into the utility pole several blocks later, which started the fire.

A man in another car was critically injured in the fire. He was taken to St. Barnabas Hospital's burn unit and is being treated for severe burns. That victim was last listed in critical but stable condition.

Police have identified the suspect as 48-year-old Leo Pinkston, of Jersey City. He was also injured in the crash and has been charged with eluding, aggravated assault and multiple other charges.

All lanes on Tunnelle Avenue have since been reopened.

Police are asking anyone with information or surveillance video of the chase or crash to contact them.
