Officials: 1 dead in early morning Totowa house fire

Officials say a person is dead following a fire at a home in Totowa Saturday morning.

Officials say a person is dead following a fire at a home in Totowa Saturday morning.

The fire broke out at a two-family home at the intersection of Chamberlain and Gordon avenues around 5 a.m. The flames destroyed the second floor.

The Passaic County Medical Examiner's Office was seen carrying a body out of the home. According to a news release from the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office, the victim was located on the second floor of the home at the time of the fire.

Police have since identified the victim as 62-year-old resident Gregory Massaro.

Police say another person rescued from the first floor of the home was taken to St. Joseph's University Medical Hospital, but was uninjured.

No other injuries were reported. The fire did not spread to any other homes.
