A retired NYPD officer is fighting for his life, but thanks to a post on social media, he's not doing it alone.
In July, Mike Vinitsky suffered a heart attack and was diagnosed with ALS. He retired from the force in 2010, with injuries he sustained on the job back in 2007.
Police say he was attacked by a prisoner he was guarding in the hospital.
A call for support went out this past Saturday on social media. Since then hundreds of people from all over have stopped by to show him support.
A GoFundMe page has been set up in his honor to help with medical bills.
