News 12 The Bronx has learned that an NYPD officer assigned to the 46th Precinct in the University Heights area has passed away while on duty.
Sources tell News 12 that the officer was rushed to St. Barnabas Hospital and died of cardiac arrest after 2 p.m. this afternoon.
Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly was on hand at the hospital visiting the officer. The NYPD is withholding details about the officer?s death until family members have been notified.
