The NYPD is investigating after a student claims he was sexually assaulted by classmates inside of the boy’s locker room at a Brooklyn high school.
The 14-year-old student’s mother called police this week to tell them her son had been sexually assaulted by a group of classmates at the It Takes a Village Academy on Tilden Avenue in East Flatbush. Police say the boy’s mother reported her son was sexually assaulted at least three times since the start of the school year.
The incidents allegedly occurred over a two-month period, but were only brought to light this week, according to police. At least four more 14-year-old boys have come forward to say they were sexually assaulted by classmates at the school also.
The parent of the 9th grader who called the police says the school was aware of the incidents and even suspended the 10th grade students accused of sexually assaulting her son after gym class.
Parents say they want answers as to why the school’s principal never reported the sex abuse allegations to the police.
The principal of the school was reassigned, according to the Department of education.
In a statement, a Department of Education spokesperson wrote, "Safety always comes first and these deeply troubling allegations are being investigated. We are working in close partnership with the NYPD to ensure appropriate action is taken and are providing the school with ongoing support."
