Some of New Jersey?s best search-and-rescue teams are training for a disaster that could happen at any time.
The emergency responders are taking part in three-day drills at the Lakehurst Naval Air Engineering Station in Ocean County. Some of the scenarios include a simulated train derailment, a building collapse and a tunnel explosion.
?In the worst possible situations you could put somebody and we want to be able to get [them] out,? said Jim Riley of the New Jersey Task Force One.
The New Jersey Task Force One joined together with the Metro Strike Force Team for the disaster drills. The metro team was created after 9/11 to respond to large-scale disasters. It consists of firefighters from Newark, Elizabeth, Hoboken, Jersey City and Bayonne.
?We all know each other and we know each other?s capabilities and that?s the idea to get the job done,? Riley said.
The is the fifth annual training mission at the naval base.
