Gas prices may be coming down, but they will still be keeping some New Jersey residents home for the Labor Day weekend.
AAA says fewer residents from the Garden State will be hitting the road this weekend due to the cost of gas. Some motorists told News 12 New Jersey that they are hoping prices go down another 50 cents, while others say they want prices down by at least $1.
According to NewJerseyGasPrices.com, the average price for a gallon of regular gas in the Garden State is now $3.42. The Web site says there are parts of South Jersey that are selling gas for as low as $3.13 a gallon.
Drivers in Ridgefield Park Thursday lined up at a Gulf station, where a radio station was offering gas for $1.04 a gallon.
Still, many residents are choosing to stay close to home this Labor Day weekend, and many people have named the Jersey Shore a popular place for getting away without going too far.
Residents who live on the shore year-round are anticipating Labor Day because it marks the unofficial end of summer ? which means residents will finally get their beaches back.
Shore residents say during the summer, the beaches are extremely crowded and parking is very bad, sometimes taking up to a half hour to find a spot. Residents look forward to the day when the crowds head home.
Business owners say they?ll miss the summer crowds because July and August are when they make the most money.
Many year-round shore residents say they've noticed that beachgoers have been better about picking up after themselves this year.
