NJ residents outraged over gas station violations
Many New Jersey residents are outraged after it was uncovered by state inspectors that motorists are getting cheated at the pump.
The state examined more than 1,000 stations, finding one-third of them to be in violation.
According to the report, Circle Gas has been charging customers more when they used credit cards without notifying them.
?That's not fair to me,? says one driver. ?I work too hard for my money.?
Harban Singh, the manager of ?Garbon Singh Circle Gas? - a station that was listed as a violator - denied any wrongdoing, saying his station never broke the law.
A Citgo station on Route 35 in Eatontown is also on the list, but workers there say they too have not been told they are in violation.
?We just had the people here checking the calibrations, and they said everything was fine,? says a gas station employee.
The state, however, says the Citgo in Eatontown had different prices at different pumps. Some matched the street sign, while others were higher.
According to the state, some stations may not know if they are in violation, but formal tickets will be mailed soon.
