After a long winter and a rainy spring, New Jersey residents were happy to soak up the sun before the storm clouds rolled in at Belmar Saturday.
Town officials say the beach in Belmar is a $3 to 4 million business in the span of two months depending on the weather.
Colleen Connolly of Belmar Administration says the weather was a good way to open up the holiday weekend.
"Something that I use as our basic unit of measurement of how we are doing is how the line looks like on Memorial Day Saturday morning and this morning the line was about 200 feet down the boardwalk and it was like that for several hours," Connolly said.
Belmar will not release its badge sale numbers until the weekend is over. Despite the storm poised to interrupt the rest of the weekend, borough officials still expect high numbers in badge sales.
