NJ ranks No. 1 for millennials still living with their parents
It seems that more millennials are still living with their parents after graduating college, according to a report by the United States Census Bureau.
The report found that 47 percent of adults ages 18 to 34 are still living at home in New Jersey, the highest percentage in the nation.
Students at Middlesex County College tell News 12 New Jersey that factors like rent, car payments and other expenses leave them with no other option but to continue to live at home.
“I’m a full-time student and almost full time at work, so it’s pretty hard trying to balance that,” says Metuchen student Russell Legaspi.
South Amboy resident Alissa Bikowski says that she wants to better establish herself before she leaves home.
"Everyone says move out, but I feel like I'm going to stay home for a few more years after that just to get on my feet, to make sure that I’m good and planted in the real world,” she says.
The report found that the highest concentration of adults living with their parents was in Hunterdon, Monmouth, Passaic, Somerset and Sussex counties.
Connecticut ranked No. 2 on the list. North Dakota ranked last.
