Muslim community leaders in New Jersey are asking Gov. Chris Christie and the City of Newark to put an end to the NYPD's surveillance of Muslims.
An NYPD report published last week by the Associated Press shows that Muslims at universities and businesses across the Northeast were being monitored.
One Muslim leader says, "We can't walk into a mosque without wondering who might be on top of the building, who might be in a shaded car, who might be snapping a camera or filming our activity."
The leaders are asking that executive orders 43 and 44, which were passed after Sept. 11, be repealed. The orders gave the NYPD permission to operate in New Jersey.
The governor's office has not commented.
