A New Jersey organization that aims to preserve Jewish cemeteries guided its last tour of the year Sunday, but says it has more work to do.
The group founded by Mona Shangold restored two Jewish cemeteries this year. Hebrew Fraternity Cemetery in Perth Amboy is one of the two. It is also where some of Shangold's family is buried. While normally the scene of tears and mourning, the group toured the Perth Amboy graveyard wearing smiles. Shangold says cemeteries are links to a past filled with a rich history and should be cherished.
Although Sunday's tour is the last for 2006, the group plans on visiting more come springtime.
