NJ commuters protest NJ Transit hike
Lawmakers, commuters and transit workers gathered at the Glen Rock train station Tuesday to rally against a New Jersey Transit fare increase.
The proposed 9 percent fare hike is coupled with service cuts and is in response to financial issues. However, many New Jersey commuters say they are already paying the highest transit fares in the country and that raising rates would hurt the middle class and working poor.
"Where is the money going? Fares are increasing but service is dropping," says Assemblyman Joe Lagana.
Those who attended Tuesday's rally say not enough money or attention is being given to public transportation in New Jersey. The group plans to hand out fliers at various New Jersey train stations to bring attention to the fare hikes.
