NFL puts admitted wife abuser Giants kicker Josh Brown on paid leave
The NFL has placed New York Giants kicker Josh Brown on the exempt list, basically putting him on paid leave from the team.
The act comes as the league announced it would reopen its investigation into allegations that Brown abused his wife, following this week's publication of court records in which Brown said he physically abused her over a protracted period.
Putting Brown on the exempt list allows the NFL to punish him further after its investigation. While on the list, Brown can't practice or play in Giants games. But he is allowed to attend workouts and meetings.
Brown did not travel with the Giants to London for Sunday's game against the Los Angeles Rams.
Coach Ben McAdoo says the team has not yet decided whether Brown will remain on the team, when faced with repeated questions at the team's first practice overseas.
At the Pro Bowl in January, Brown's wife called NFL security to ask that she and her three children be moved to another hotel to avoid harassment. When asked whether the Giants knew about Brown's behavior then, McAdoo repeatedly said the Giants were still gathering information. Finally, he answered: "I'm not going to answer that."
The Giants have signed Robbie Gould, a former star kicker for the Chicago Bears. He will practice with the team Saturday.
