PLAINFIELD - A Plainfield family is counting their blessings after an attempted robbery nearly took their mother's life.

Zoila Nova is still weak after five days in the hospital and a frighteningly close brush with death.

The incident happened Saturday afternoon when a man came into the shop where she works asking for cologne. He suddenly pulled out a gun, apparently intending to rob the store. The bullet passed through Nova's body, leaving a hole in the wall.

Witnesses say as many as 12 men gave chase to help police capture James Knight Jr., 57, who is now in custody and has been charged with aggravated assault.

Family members say they are upset about the rising crime in Plainfield, but that they're also gratified that so many people came to their mother's aid.
