Zainee Hailey, 13, and Kasson Mormon, 15, killed in Newark shooting; third victim, 14, in critical condition
NEWARK - Newark officials say two teenagers were shot and killed on Wednesday night and a third is in critical condition.
Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn A. Murray and Newark Police Director Samuel A. DeMaio say Zainee Hailey, 13, and Kasson Mormon, 15, were fatally shot at around 10 p.m. on the 100 block of Schley Street. Both were pronounced dead at a local hospital. They say a third young victim, a 14-year-old boy, has been hospitalized and remains in critical condition.
Police are still looking for those responsible for the Christmas night shooting. No possible motives for the crime have surfaced. Hailey was reportedly an innocent bystander who was shot while she was taking out the trash.
