Young man found at bottom of South Orange pool dies despite rescue efforts

SOUTH ORANGE - An 18-year-old Bloomfield man has died after he was found at the bottom of a South Orange swimming pool.

Police say the young man was found Monday at a home on Redmond Road. Coincidentally, a 16-year-old lifeguard was walking past the house on his way to his job at a South Orange public pool when he heard people screaming for help. 

The young lifeguard began CPR and was soon joined by first responders. 

Despite their efforts, the 18-year-old passed away at St. Barnabas hospital Tuesday afternoon. 

Authorities have not yet released his name.
