WYCKOFF - School crossing guards in Wyckoff say more and more drivers are not stopping for children in the crosswalks and they warn it could have tragic consequences.

Crossing guards are concerned for their safety as well as the children they protect. So far, no one has been hurt, but there have been close calls.

One parent tells News 12 New Jersey she's concerned about distracted drivers. "They come flying up and here's the crossing guard putting his stop sign up," Mary Elaine said. "But people are on their cell phones and they're not paying attention. And he's had people slam on their brakes."

Wyckoff police are cracking down, and issuing tickets as part of a zero-tolerance policy.
