MORGANVILLE - Officials with the state's Motor Vehicle Commission are warning would-be buyers about buying Superstorm Sandy-damaged cars.
The MVC says it has seen a near 6,000 percent increase in flood-damaged and salvage vehicle titles processed in the past three months.
While it's not against the law to sell a flooded or salvaged title, the seller is legally obligated to disclose that information to potential buyers.
The Division of Consumer Affairs has added an online database to its website where would-be buyers can look up a car by make, model, year or VIN to check for flood damage.
The database has more than 13,000 vehicles in it so far.
