TOMS RIVER - Services will be held in Ocean County at the end of this week for a World War II veteran from Toms River.

Leonard "Bud" Lomell will be remembered for critical actions he took on D-Day in France. As a young soldier, he and his fellow Army rangers climbed a giant cliff at Pointe du Hoc amid enemy gunfire and destroyed German guns.

Lomell was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross, the Silver Star, and three Purple Hearts.
