JERSEY CITY - Traveling in and out of Jersey City could get tricky as crews start work on the Palisade Avenue Bridge.

The bridge over Route 139 was closed Friday night in preparation of the demolition starting this morning.

New Jersey Department of Transportation officials say the work will be done in stages beginning with an overnight full closure this weekend to minimize the effects on residents and businesses.

Motorists traveling southbound on Palisade Avenue will be directed west onto Beacon Avenue to Baldwin Avenue southbound to Newark Avenue eastbound.

Motorists trying to access Palisade Avenue from Newark Avenue will be directed to Baldwin Avenue northbound to Beacon Avenue eastbound to Palisade Avenue.

The Palisade Avenue Bridge is the second of five bridges over Route 139 that are being reconstructed as part of the Pulaski Skyway Contract 2.
