Woodcliff Lake politician accused of abusing her power

EDISON - A Woodcliff Lake councilwoman is facing charges for allegedly abusing her power.

Councilwoman Joanne Howley, when she was Parks and Recreations director, is accused of letting her children swim in the town?s pool for free and attend summer camps even though they weren?t residents of the town. When she was confronted with this, authorities say she asked employees to lie for her.

Woodcliff Lake City Council President Paul Camella asked for her resignation, but he says Howley refused.

Howley was charged with theft and witness tampering.
