Woodbridge school staffers suspended over testing irregularities

WOODBRIDGE - Two principals and three teachers in Woodbridge have been suspended and an assistant superintendent has resigned after the state found an unusual number of erased answers and other irregularities on standardized tests.

State investigators recently completed reports on problems at the Avenel Street and Ross Street elementary schools. Investigators found evidence of what is described as ?improper coaching? of students before and after exams in 2010 and 2011.

Those schools and two other Woodbridge schools were among nine statewide that were targeted by the state's Department of Education because of an unusually high number of erased answers on tests.

The state's report on the other two Woodbridge schools should come soon, according to state Education Department officials.
